On Dollhouse, Enver Gjokaj was a standout as Victor, one of the many dolls working (or enslaved?) alongside Echo (Eliza Dushku). Gjokaj quickly proved to be amazingly versatile, and deftly handled any accent, mannerism or dramatically different character the show threw at him – including a couple of very notable times when he was called on to play other characters on the series.
With Dollhouse over, Gjokaj has a new project – an original comedy webseries called Previously on Point Dume (check out the first episode below).
On the heels of having just filmed a guest appearance on Lie to Me, Gjokaj spoke to me about Previously on Point Dume, how the webseries came together, his thoughts on the end of Dollhouse and more. (more…)
While “Dollhouse” began life as a vehicle for star and producer Eliza Dushku, one of the supporting players who immediately drew the notice of fans was Enver Gjokaj.
As Gjokaj kept showcasing his versatility — one week he was Russian, the next week British, the next week he became co-star Reed Diamond — his Victor seemed to get more and more screentime. Eventually, Victor’s relationship with Dichen Lachman’s Sierra became a key part of the show’s emotional core.
When the Joss Whedon drama ended its truncated two-season run this winter, fans immediately started waiting for Gjokaj to land a pilot role. So far, that wait continues, but Gjokaj’s next project will make its online debut next week. (more…)
Dollhouse only has five more episodes until it’s wiped, but the action will be non-stop, promises Enver Gjokaj (pronounced joke eye), who plays Victor, the male half of the Victor/Sierra romance. Gjokai gave TV Guide Magazine a preview of tonight’s double feature and offers up some hints about the final three shows (airing January 8, 15 and 22) and whether Echo and her pals can stop the really bad future that was shown in the seen-only-on-DVD episode “Epitaph One.†Brace yourself for MAJOR SPOILERS.
In this week’s Victor-centric episode, will we learn who the Dollhouse boy toy really is?
Yes, but it’s not a flashback. Adele [Olivia Williams] basically gets her heart broken on one of her dates with him. Even though he’s imprinted as her lover, he breaks up with her and say he’s in love with another person—though he doesn’t quite realize it’s Sierra [Dichen Lachman]. Adele gets into a really dark place and even though his contract isn’t quite up, she kicks him out of the Dollhouse. It turns out his real name is Anthony and the deal with him was that they’d take away his post-traumatic stress syndrome if he joined the Dollhouse. (more…)
It may be hard to figure out how to pronounce Enver Gjokaj from seeing the name in print – for the record, the first name rhymes with “then there†and the surname rhymes with “joke eye†– but it’s easy to recognize the actor’s talent and versatility on Joss Whedon’s Fox series DOLLHOUSE.
As the “Active†Victor, California native Gjokaj plays a man whose mind has been wiped by the staff of the Dollhouse so that he can be “imprinted†with any personality to suit the wealthy clients who pay for his services on assignments – and sometimes he winds up accidentally programmed with personalities that were unintended.
Fresh off the news that “Dollhouse” will be MIA during November sweeps, the show returns this week with a Sierra-centric episode that is arguably the best hour the series has produced so far. What can you expect from the last new ep until December?
First of all, Dichen Lachman’s performance as both Sierra and Priya — the woman she was before she became a doll — will blow you away.
Turns out Priya’s initiation to the dollhouse wasn’t as kosher as everyone (including Adelle) thought, and that discovery sets off a chain reaction which Sierra/Priya, Topher, Boyd, and Adelle will likely wish they hadn’t started.
The episode is definitely one of the darkest “Dollhouse” has done to date, as many of the characters are dealing with serious moral and ethical conflicts, but it’s also one of the most satisfying. Besides Dichen’s noteworthy performance, Fran Kranz, Harry Lennix and Olivia Williams all get the chance to shine… albeit in a much creepier fashion.
And in addition to all of the heart-wrenching, twisted Joss-y things fans have come to expect, the Victor/Sierra romance is highlighted this week. Their relationship continues to be one of the sweetest aspects of the series, something Dichen and Enver Gjokaj (Victor) talk about in the clip below.
Clearly the chemistry isn’t confined to just the show…
Enver Gjokaj as Victor in “Dollhouse” helps make the “Belle Chose” episode one of the creepiest yet in the show’s limited history. Questionably using a doll to reconstruct a serial killer, Echo taking on another sexy role, an unprecedented remote wipe of a doll and another “Battlestar Galactica” cast mate (Michael Hogan) making an appearance all make this a memorable concoction.
The episode explores yet another ethically off-kilter use of the dollhouse technology with a situation that tests the viewer’s resolve. Of the technology, Enver says in a quick interview I did with him following the mini recap below: “I would hope that I would basically step on it and kill it immediately, and never look back.” Yes, but if you needed to find women held hostage by a serial killer, and could imprint a doll to do just that, wouldn’t you? Probably, but know that you are also creating a serial killer in the process, with (hopefully) no side effects later on down the road when he’s wiped. See Echo’s reaction at the end of the show? A little serial killer sneaked in, so you never know.
Col. Tigh’s quick scene was a layer of icing on a many-tiered cake of pretty good acting. Liked Echo in this episode a lot as well. Eliza’s ditzy yet tough yet childlike transformations are definitely showing more active signs of the burgeoning personality in Echo awakening. Eliza’s good when she has to fight, even against her own psyche. And though her doll counterpart Victor is still a blank slate, Enver is far from it. We got to talk a bit to the world-traveling actor about his “Dollhouse” off-season, this particular episode, and what’s up with Victor this season. (more…)
Victor has become a fan favorite in Dollhouse. His infatuation with Sierra (Dichen Lachman) suggests relationships possibly real or constructed. In the show’s second season, actor Enver Gjokaj will have even more to play.
“They just love to mess with Victor, man,†Gjokaj said. “Poor Victor. Victor’s going to be imprinted with a lot of really twisted people this season. I wouldn’t say a lot but a few notable ones and then they also like to make a fool of Victor. Or maybe me. Maybe it’s just Enver Gjokaj, they like to see me dance around like an idiot. There’s going to be some twisted, ridiculous stuff. It’s either going to be funny or horrifying or just the biggest hot mess that you’ve ever seen on national television, but it’s going to be something.†(more…)
